Mitek: the profitable fraud-and-identity company nobody is talking about

A screen of 26 AI, SI and AR small caps found one with GAAP profit, a 79% gross margin, net cash and a shrinking share count. What the filings say, where the control history sits, and what the December results need to show.

Abstract

Mitek Systems is a 595-person San Diego software company whose computer vision sits inside the mobile-deposit feature of thousands of US banks, handling about 1.2 billion check transactions a year. It also runs a consortium that scores checks for fraud and sells identity verification and biometric liveness detection that tells a live person from a photo, a replay or a deepfake. In the June 2026 quarter it grew revenue 18%, earned $8.4 million of GAAP net income on a 79% gross margin, and held $100 million of cash and investments against a $49 million bank loan.

This report rebuilds the company from its own filings: the two segments and how each is paid; eight quarters of revenue and margin; the balance sheet after the convertible notes were repaid in cash; the share count, which has fallen; the board; and the control history, five material weaknesses stated as remediated in fiscal 2025. It sets the company inside the market independent analysts describe, lists the people changes to watch, and closes with a preliminary First Look Score under method v2.

Nothing here is a recommendation, a price target or advice to any reader. First Look Equities, its founder and its affiliates hold no position in Mitek or any company on our lists, and no company pays for coverage or for its score. Mitek was chosen by the method, not by anyone's request.
